This site is about my life in the art studio. It includes drawings, paintings, knitting and cross stitch and fun art techniques. I will also include recipes and yoga and book reviews. This is a lifestyle blog with intentional and simple living ideas.
I’m trying to get myself back to making watercolor pictures.
Watercolors are relaxing and soothing for me.
I found out someone I know is not doing well. She has been fighting cancer for several years. That day was difficult to hear the worst news. I took myself to the art studio and grabbed my watercolors.
I thought about life, spirituality, death and what heaven is like.
This is what came out of my emotions and thoughts.
‘Ann’ June 2021, try to keep fighting.
I pray that she will not be in pain anymore and that her angels will guide her to her next journey. And I pray her son will find himself closer to his spiritual belief and let God guide him.
It really is true, you don’t know what you have until you are looking directly at the end.
Today is such a pleasant morning after the intense heat and humidity. I walked my dog and decided when I got home to make banana bread.
I have to make my recipes gluten free and dairy free and soy free because of my restricted diet to improve inflammation and gut problems with digestion. Having an autoimmune disease, I found a gluten free, dairy free and soy free diet has improved my symptoms. I have energy, motivation, anxiety and depression has decreased, and no more brain fog. And edema had improved in my legs.
I used Better Homes and Garden cookbook for the recipe. But I changed it from butter to vegan butter, all-purpose flour to measure for measure flour.
I use gluten free measure to measure flour by King Arthur that is in local grocery stores.
I substitute all-purpose flour with King Arthur measure for measure flour.
Banana Bread- (from better homes and garden cookbook)…
2 cups gluten free measure for measure flour
1.5 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 beaten eggs
1.5 cups mashed bananas (5 bananas)
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup cooking oil
1/4 cup chopped walnuts-optional
1 recipe Streusel-nut topping
Grease bottom of 9x5x3 inch pan.
Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Make a well in the center of flour mixture. Set aside.
In a medium bowl combine eggs, bananas, sugar, and oil. Add egg mixture to the flour mixture. There will be lumps of bananas.
Spoon batter into the greased pan.
Sprinkle the streusel topping onto of it, bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes. Then additional 15 covered with foil.
Cool for 10 minutes, remove from pan. Cool completely on a wire rack.
Wrap and store in refrigerator.
(I found any gluten free baking dish needs to be stored in the refrigerator or in freezer to last longer)
Streusel topping recipe
I substitute butter with Miyoko’s vegan butter.
In a bowl combine 1/4 cup packed brown sugar and 3 tablespoons gluten free measure for measure flour.
Using a pastry blender, cut in 2 tablespoons butter until mixture resembles course crumbs.
Today at the studio, we woke up early, extremely early, 4am early. Because I couldn’t sleep and couldn’t get comfortable.
Sometimes the best sleep is on the sofa. Then it rained. My dog and I didn’t get to walk. By the time the sun came out, it was too hot.
I later got my second dose for covid vaccination. Then the fatigue started to set in.
I stitched in between my naps. At some point, you got to say enough for today. My brain was getting lazy and I just didn’t want to count my stitches anymore.
Here’s the progress from this weekend.
Tomorrow I will be home. Hopefully no more side effects from the vaccine. I plan to paint a graduation card. And may paint on canvas for awhile. We shall see how I’m feeling.
A new knitting project just began using the stockinette stitch. It’s really easy. It will make the project to be thick. Great for scarves, shawls, headbands and sweaters.
The plan is to stitch a headband using stockinette stitch.
Cast on 40 stitches
Then knit and move yarn to front, slip the next stitch as if you are going to purl, (but you won’t actually purl) then move yarn back and knit. Repeat.
Slip the stitch… don’t actually purl the stitch
There’s tons of videos about this stitch to view.
It’s another hot day. It will consist of staying downstairs in front of the fan, stitching. It will also be an early bedtime.
It’s exhausting working full time and wanting to work on my individual creative projects.
Yesterday there’s was no posting about what’s happening at 4pawsartstudio because it wasn’t an interesting day. Basically I worked all day and took my dog to the vet and helped my neighbor out with feeding her cats.
Waking up extra early helped me to get out for a walk with my dog before the sun started to beat down on my fair skin.
After I started to knit the scarf. It was a surprise that I was able to finish it before I had to go into the office this afternoon.
It looked to boring… let’s add tassels!
I pinned the markers where to knit in the tassels.
Then measure and cut 12″ long of the color for the tassel. I had 3 strands in 12 groupings for each end of the scarf. Take a crochet hook and find the center, loop the grouping of yarn and crochet it where the marker is. But leave a loop and add the tail into the loop to tie it in place.
Then I cut the ends to match the length of the tassels.
I’m very pleased with it.
Look for it on Etsy in my shop named: 4pawsartstudio
Today has been productive with seeing clients today. I work as an art therapist and counselor, and found today to be exhausting. I think the heat has really affected me. I can not wait for cooler weather to get a good nights sleep soon.
I managed to put some time in with knitting. It was worth the extra time, as the color change to the scarf has begun
For some reason my fingers just wanted to give my knitting a hard time today. The exhaustion of the heat and how it affects the Rheumatoid Arthritis and inflammation has really done a number on me.
Well eventually I will get this scarf done. My goal is to have it done by Friday, to start on a new project.
Here’s the evening self-care: self-care is needed for creativity
Evening walk with my dog
Evening yoga
Pet the cats
Go to bed
I can’t resist sharing how the new cat joined me with yoga.
Maybe I’ll be able to recharge myself for more creativity.
This morning, being extremely hot and humid at the studio, breakfast would have to be light and easy.
Chia Pudding to the rescue:
Chia pudding recipe:
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1/4 Cup chia seeds
1 tablespoon maple syrup
Stir together, let set for 3 minutes. Stir again. Then put in refrigerator, for 4 hours or over night.
Option:
You can put in 1/2 cup of unsweetened almond milk and 1/2 cup coconut milk Add fruit for more goodness!
Today, I have a full schedule of clients to see. My free time will be working on the scarf. It’s certainly getting longer. Maybe it will be completed at the end of this week. Look for it to be for sale in my shop on Etsy.
Yesterday I got a new addition:
He came from a home that couldn’t keep him because they have three bunnies.
My other three cats and dog are getting along with him.
Ever wonder why I named my art studio 4pawsartstudio?
It’s simple my pet friends are always near me while I’m knitting, cross stitching drawing painting etc. How could I not name it after them?
