This site is about my life in the art studio. It includes drawings, paintings, knitting and cross stitch and fun art techniques. I will also include recipes and yoga and book reviews. This is a lifestyle blog with intentional and simple living ideas.
This knit stitch is great for scarves, blankets, dish towels. It’s easy. It takes two types of stitches knit and purl.
Pattern
Cast on multiple of 4 plus 2.
* repeat, pattern begins each row with knit 1, and ends with knit 1.
Row 1- k1, (*p2, k2), k1
Row 2- k1, (*p1,k2,p1), k1
Row 3- k1, (*k2, p2), k1
Row 4- k1, (*k1,p2,k1), k1
I am stitching squares of different stitches and will be stitching them together for a blanket. I am hoping it will be a blanket that can go on my bed for the summer. It will be a long wait for this to be finished. But it will be worth it.
I made goals at the beginning of this year. The goal is to complete what was started! Let’s see what has been done. And read the books I have. Plus no additional shopping, use what I have with my arts and crafts.
The Knits
There are 2 knitting projects, one a scarf and the other is a wrap.
The scarf is knitted with seed stitch. The wrap is knitted in hurdle stitch. It has 4 rows which is row one: knit stitch, row two: knit stitch, row three: knit, purl, row four: knit purl
The scarf is getting close to being completed. I may be able to wear this scarf before the winter ends!
Below is purl stitch. Garter stitch is the edge.
The wrap has much more to finish. I just added the other skein of yarn a few days ago. I also have to stop knitting it at a certain length, so I can knit pockets for it. (being a little adventurous)!
Below is close up of hurdle knit stitch.
Books
I am not a fan of reading. I prefer to write, but I know my writing is not professional.
The Bible study is going well, every night I listen to the study and make notes. I have been learning a lot.
The other books-well they make it out of the bin, but then onto a table. I just can’t get myself interested. The goal was to read, not to complete the entire bin. Maybe I have revisit this goal.
I Bent the Rules
I was going to finish another cross stitch before I began Rue Paris. But I just wanted so badly to start it. So I am now focused on Rue Paris. I am ok with that. I think I will alternate between the one I need to finish and Rue Paris.
Below is how much I have accomplished on the stitching. I’ll stitch Rue Paris on Sunday.
Today I had the day off from work. It felt great to sleep in and leisurely wake up.
I started out with a gluten free dairy free and soy free breakfast.
Stockinette stitch headband
I began a few rows of a headband. Using stockinette stitch.
Gluten free breakfast
Fried egg, on toasted gluten free bagel with avocado and tomato on the side. Top off with everything bagel seasoning.
In my studio
Then I went to my studio and used watercolor and started a new acrylic painting.
Then I are lunch which was not tasty.
Winter birds cross stitch
Then I started a cross stitch of winter birds.
Evening with stockinette stitch headband
And I’ll end the night laying down with a weighted blanket and might stitch a few more rows of the stockinette stitch headband.
Why so many little things today? Because I want to do it all and haven’t been making art in over a month. I’m trying to get my creative intuition back!
Last night I completed a scarf. It’s in time to wear for the windy rainy weather we are having today.
I used the waffle stitch. It’s a pretty design but also not overly heavy.
Waffle Stitch Directions
Here’s how to stitch the waffle knit stitch…
Cast on a multiple of 3 stitches then add 1 stitch.
Row 1- k1, p2 repeat, last stitch is k1
Row 2- p1, k2 repeat, last stitch is p1
Row 3-knit all stitches
Row 4- knit all stitches
Here’s a drawing I made to keep my rows correct. I kept forgetting to use my number clicker for each row. When I set it down I had to think about which row I was on.
If the working yarn is toward your right hand and it shows little balls of design then it’s row 2 or row 4.
If it looks like waffle side, you can be on row 1 or row 3.
Blocking your Knit Project
After my scarf was completed I used a blocking method to get the rolls on the side to lay flat. Just place your scarf or whatever you knitted on the table, and place books on top of it, you will need a few books on it. Keep it there over night and the rolls should be flat.
I might make myself ear warmers with this yarn. It will be a simple knit to take with me to the office and work on it when I have breaks in the day or when my clients don’t show for their appointment.
It’s like where in the world have I been? Like waldo? I’m somewhere between the mess in my life and the mess in my house!
I quickly decided to update my kitchen and bathroom. It’s been two areas of my home that needed some TLC. Since I have been thinking about selling my home, this would help me more than ever to sell quickly. I found someone who likes to do updates in homes and does not charge an extraordinary amount. It may be fully complete by Saturday.
I’m still unsure if I want to move. So that might be something that pops up quickly as well in the future.
Before pictures of the kitchen (forgot to get the before for the bathroom) just wait to see my cabinet colors!
Here’s some photos of what’s been happening.
The bathroom has been on hold but it may be done by Friday. Some technical things happened but nothing that cost money to fix.
Here’s the floor for the bathroom.
As for the art. Well my art table is being used for painting the cabinet doors. I’ll be treating myself to a new craft table in the future. My little 4pawsartstudio is not in a condition to use at this time. That’s ok. I’ve been busy at work. Always busy right before Thanksgiving.
I have started a new headband knit pattern. Waffle stitch great for beginners.
Cross stitching is on hold, it’s too messy and dusty to work on it.
I’ll be back to cross stitching once the house is clean and reorganized.
Maybe the next post will be about the completed updates.
Some days I prefer to knit instead of painting. This little piece will be a headband. It will be on Etsy once I am ready to post more products.
The piece below is slowly being stitched. It’s going to be an oversized scarf/shawl. This will not be sold. I need a new shawl for my office as it gets cold. I better get this stitched asap, in the Midwest it’s starting to show signs of Autumn.
Check out Etsy shop, I have knitted headbands/ ear warmers, and scarfs for sale.
